We kick off Top 24 Moments with the first major twist of 24, the revelation of Nina Myers as the mole inside CTU. We discover this at the end of the penultimate episode of the first series.
Background Info:
Victor Drazen had threatened to kill Jack Bauer’s daughter, Kim; unless he killed David Palmer. Jack was ordered to go to Sentor Palmer’s hotel, where he must get Palmer to answer the phone at 10.45pm when the Drazen’s call. They inform Jack that failure to do so will result in them killing his daughter. Upon Jack asking Palmer to answer the phone at the specified time, Bauer informs him that he will be asked by the Drazen’s to kill him however Jack assured him that he had no intention to harm him. Knowing that failure to answer the phone at the stated time could result in the death of Jack’s daughter, Senator Palmer agrees to do so. When the phonecall arrives, Palmer answers and is greeted by Victor Drazen followed by a silence. Hearing a beeping noise, Jack realises that the phone is rigged with an explosive and quickly grabs it from Palmer’s grasp and throws it out the window as it denonates. Kim hears the explosion down the phoneline and fears that her father has been killed. Following the explosion, and having both managed to survive the blast unscathed, Jack asks the Palmer’s to release a story to the press on the pretence that he was killed in the explosion, in order to make the Drazen’s believe that their plan had worked, and they had both been taken out in the blast. After much opposition from wife Sherry, Palmer agrees to Jack’s request. Shortly after, the Drazen’s see an announcement on the news that Senator Palmer has been killed in an explosion at the hotel, to which they celebrate. Victor tells Andre not to do anything with Kim until they are sure that Bauer too, was killed in the blast. Andre calls Jack at Palmer’s hotel, and to his surprise Jack answers. Having been discovered to be still alive, Jack offers to trade himself for the release of Kim. Believing that Palmer is dead, the Drazens agree to the trade and tell Jack their location. Jack says he will be there in 30 minutes, whilst Andre tells Jack that if he tries to contact CTU, they will know about it. Palmer wishes Jack luck as he departs the hotel. However, unbeknown to Jack, Kim manages to escape the Drazen compound and swim to safety whilst he is making his way to the docks.
Andre Drazen receives a phone call from a woman named Yelena to inform him that Senator David Palmer wasn’t really dead and it had been used as a trick so that they would not kill Jack’s daughter. As she hangs up, it is revealed that "Yelena" was in fact Nina Myers. She then returns to work inside CTU with all personell continuing to be completely unaware of her true colours.

Andre Drazen: Yes?
Nina Myers: It’s Yelena.
Andre Drazen: Why are you calling?
Nina Myers: Palmer is not dead.
Andre Drazen: What?
Nina Myers: It was a trick to make you believe. To keep the girl alive.
Andre Drazen: You’re sure of this?
Nina Myers: Yes, I’m sure.
