After Ira Gaines successfully manages to manoeuvre Jack out of the hospital, Alan York prepares to go in and see his daughter, Janet. Alan speaks with the doctor who asks if he would prefer to visit Janet alone. It was an invitation that he didn't pass up and proceeded to enter the room unattended.
Janet responds to the presence of someone in the room, and murmurs “Daddy?” in anticipation of it being her father. “Hello, Janet. You’ve had a rough night, haven’t you?” he says as he approaches her bedside. Upon seeing his face, Janet enquires “Who are you? Where’s my father?” Alan tenderly strokes her hair before moving to stop the flow of oxygen through her mask and pressing it firmly up against her face so that she can’t breathe. Janet struggles to get free, but who we now know to be a faux Alan York, holds her down until she has been fully suffocated. Upon glancing at the bedside machine for confirmation of successful completion of his objective, he releases his hold on her mask and leaves the room.
Teri later realises that she is in danger when she receives a phone call from Nina at CTU. Nina asks Teri to pass on the information to Jack that a man named Alan York has been identified as the murder victim which he had requested to be notified of.
We discover in a later episode that his true identity is in fact Kevin Carroll, who was working for Ira Gaines.
