#22 - Miguel's Knockout Blow

December 4th, 2009

Having learned of the impending nuclear threat, Kim and boyfriend Miguel look to obtain Megan Matheson from father Gary’s grasp at the hospital so that she can be taken out of the blast zone.

Gary is lured away from Megan when he is informed by a nurse that he has a phone call waiting for him, and heads over to the nurse’s station to answer it. The person on the other end of the phone is Miguel, posing as someone from accounting. Kim pounces on the opportunity and enters Megan’s room and persuades her to leave with her. Gary soon loses patience with the phone call, hangs up, and returns to Megan’s room to find that she has gone. He alerts a nearby nurse and demands that hospital staff find her.

Miguel and Kim meet up again on the stairway and make their way down it with Megan. Upon seeing a security officer guarding the exit of the hospital, they hide away in a hospital storage room.

Having devised his plan, Miguel sneaks out of the room and diverts the hospital security staff's attention by stealing a computer monitor to allow for Kim and Megan’s undetected exit from the hospital.

Unbeknown to them, Gary Matheson sees the pair leave the building from Megan's hospital room window.

Kim and Megan wait for Miguel in the hospital car park by some trees before Gary creeps up on them.

Miguel's Knockout BlowKim: Get away from her!
Gary: Give her to me, Kim. Or I swear to God I will make sure you go to prison for 20 years.
Kim: I don’t care. I know how she got the concussion.
Gary: That was an accident!
Kim:  Oh, like Carla's bruises?

Gary grabs Kim by her hair and winds up his arm to hit her when Miguel arrives on the scene and intercepts him by knocking him into a tree and wrestling him to the ground. Whilst on the grass, Gary gets in a clean punch on Miguel. Unimpressed, Miguel responds by spinning around and delivering a satisfying blow to Gary’s head with his right foot. A dazed Gary is toppled by a second kick, knocking him onto the bonnet of a parked vehicle and unconscious.

Unfortunately for Miguel, karate kicks would prove to be a thing of the past due to events three and a half hours down the line.
