Following what was seemingly the end of the day’s events, President Palmer addresses the public to inform them that the threat is over. He goes on to shake hands with many of the gathering around him, one of which is a familiar face (albeit not to Palmer) - Mandy. In coming into contact with President Palmer’s hand, Mandy transfers a flesh-eating substance onto the unsuspecting Palmer, who soon collapses.
Trivia: The extended ending included in the Season 2 DVD box set's special features shows President Palmer get up and say he's okay. This was filmed to prevent the extras on location leaking the real ending.
This is also the third use of the silent clock, the second of which in season 2.
