#23 - A Timely Exit

December 27th, 2009

Jack arrives at the gas plant via helicopter with a small CTU team including Curtis Manning. Inside, Vladimir Bierko is waiting for the plant pressure levels to drop sufficiently low enough for him to release Sentox nerve gas into the system.

The first two hostiles that Jack, Curtis and co. come across inside the plant are taken out without detection using silencers. It isn’t long before they reach and enter the control room containing Bierko and his men. Gunshots are exchanged and as Bierko takes cover, he notices that the pressure levels have dropped to 50% and proceeds to activate the nerve gas canisters by remote control.

When Bierko’s men have been taken out and Bierko leaves the room, Jack sees on the control room monitors that the gas inside the Sentox canisters has been released. Jack notifies the plant worker of the situation and establishes the location of the pipeline that feeds the tanks, as it will need to be taken out in order for the gas not to spread into homes across the city. When Bill asks over the comms link what is going on, Jack explains that igniting the Sentox can be incinerate it and neutralise the threat it poses. Jack goes in search of the pipe with the red arrow, as described to him by the plant worker, and upon locating it, sets about planting C-4 onto it. Chloe advises Jack over the radio that the Sentox has been in the system for one minute and that he has a further minute before it gets out. Jack sets the timer on the explosives for 30 seconds and begins his hasty departure. Back at CTU, Bill tries to establish communication with Jack to ensure that he is clear of the plant, as the explosives timer that he set reaches zero.

A timely exitJack runs at full pelt as a series of explosions and flames hunt him down like a tidal wave. When Jack appears to have reached some form of safety, a nearby explosion knocks him to the ground. Whilst grounded, Jack sees Bierko making his escape.

Jack: Curtis, I got a visual on Bierko.
Curtis: Jack, you won’t have time before the main tanks explode.
Jack: Right now, he’s our only connection to Henderson.

Jack begins his pursuit of Bierko and finds him as he is about to enter the police car that he and his crew obtained earlier in the hour. As soon as Bierko becomes aware of Jack’s presence, one of the main tanks explodes, knocking Bierko to the ground. Chloe warns Jack over the radio that the tanks are about to go up and that he should get out of there. Jack attempts to drag the seemingly unconscious Bierko into the car, but this is proved not to be the case when he lashes out at Jack and pins him up against the car. Another tank goes up in flames and Jack proceeds to head-butt Bierko, releasing himself from his grasp. Jack then pulls him into the vehicle as the tank closest to them explodes, bringing a pile of rubble and flames down on top of their vehicle; making for an uncertain end to the episode.
