Jack and Agent Renee Walker are gazing through the glass at a restrained Tony Almeida from the FBI observation room.
Larry Moss enters the room, calls Renee over to one side, and informs her that Tony is working for the Juma regime. Moss continues by saying that it looks like Tony was involved in providing Juma with the CIP device and is threatening to use it to kill thousands of Americans unless President Taylor complies with a list of demands, read out in an audio message by Colonel Ike Dubaku.
Listening in on their conversation, Jack Bauer states that he will be able to ascertain the location of the device.
Jack: I can get you your CIP device. Just let me talk to him. I know him. I know how he thinks. We have a history. I can use it against him.
Renee tells Larry that it makes sense to let Jack interrogate him, but Larry remains hesitant over the idea.
Jack: You’re running out of time. You don’t have a better option.
Larry begrudgingly agrees without uttering a word by opening the interrogation room door for Jack to enter.
Jack: I watched you die in my arms. You wanna explain to me how you’re still alive?
Tony stares at Jack momentarily before looking away.
Jack goes on to tell Tony that he knows that he is working for the Juma regime, and recommends that he saves himself some time and pain by telling him where the CIP device is.
Tony: I can’t tell you that, Jack.
Jack reminds Tony of the consequences of his actions and that he is facing the death penalty. Jack says that he may be able to cut a deal that would see him be granted immunity if he tells him what he wants to know.
Tony tells Jack that he is wasting his breath and suggests that he advises the President to withdraw the US troops in Sangala, otherwise thousands of American lives are at stake.
When Jack asks why Tony is doing this, he implies that it was motivated by money, but Jack conveys his scepticism.
Tony: Come on, Jack. Don’t act so surprised. Money is the only reason I have left for doing anything. The government took care of that.
Jack: The government didn’t kill Michelle. Charles Logan did.
Tony: Charles Logan is a product of his environment. The government poisons everything in its path. You know that better than me, Jack. Look what they did to you.
Jack: Damn it, Tony, we are not talking about me.
Tony: Oh, we're not? You're asking me why I'm doing this. I could ask you the same question. Here you are, working for the same people who wanna put you in prison. The same people who killed everything you loved and left you with nothing. Your daughter wants nothing to do with you. Teri's dead.
Jack: Shut up.
Tony: Audrey Raines--
Jack: (shouting) I said, shut up!
Tony: No, Jack, no! You need to hear this! You need to start living in the real world. Because every second you help the government, you're spitting on Teri's grave!
Jack grabs a hold of Tony and throws him up against the wall.
Larry Moss sets about entering the room, but Renee tells him to wait; sensing that Jack may be about to extract information from Tony.
Jack: Tell me where the device is! So help me God, I will kill you, and you will stay dead this time.
Jack repeatedly asks him to reveal the location of the CIP device, as he begins to throttle Tony.
Tony: (whispers) Deep Sky.
Jack: What did you just say?
Tony: (slowly and quietly) Deep Sky.
Larry Moss rushes into the room, and orders the FBI officer to escort Jack out of the room, unaware of what Tony had relayed to Jack.
In the hallway outside of the interrogation room, Jack pulls out his phone and makes a call.
Disguised voice: Hello?
Jack: This is Jack Bauer.
Disguised voice: Yes?
Jack: I was told to call you.
Disguised voice: By whom?
Jack: Tony Almeida. He gave me this old CTU emergency phone code. Deep Sky.
(person removes voice disguiser)
Bill Buchanan: It's Bill, Jack.
Bill says that they need to talk and that he will call Jack back in around 10 minutes, once he has managed to set up a secure VPN line.
Bill ends the call and Chloe O’Brian is revealed to be with Bill.
Chloe: I can’t believe this. If Tony’s been arrested, it’s over. Are you gonna tell Jack everything?
Bill: We wanna get Tony back undercover, we’ll need his help.
Chloe: I don’t think Jack’s in a very helpful frame of mind.
Bill: He’s our only hope.
