Redemption - Trivia

Season 7 aired after being off the air for almost 18 months due to the Hollywood Writer's strike. Large amounts of the season had already been filmed ready for the intended airdate of January 2008, and indeed the delays led to the creation of 24: Redemption. Africa was the planned start-point for season 7, but instead it was decided to make a TV movie of Jack's African adventure, as a prequel to season 7.

24: Redemption was originally named 24: Exile. The name change announcement was made just a few weeks prior to it airing.

This is the first ever episode not to take place in Los Angeles or its CTU branch.

This is the first episode to state, “Events occur in real time,” since the premiere of Season 3.
This is the only episode to take place over a time frame greater than one hour.
Filming took place from June 4th to June 20th, 2008. The majority was filmed on location in Cape Town, South Africa with the final scenes being shot in Los Angeles, California.
On the DVD version, this episode has proper movie-esque credits at the end. The music used is the orchestral version of the 24 theme, originally recorded for 24: The Game.
24: Redemption featured a silent clock at the end, and also marks the first time it was used in back-to-back episodes, as season 6 ended with a silent clock too.
This is the first episode since Day 4, 7:00pm-8:00pm that Chloe O'Brian does not appear in.
This is the first episode to begin with a pre-title sequence.
According to the DVD commentary, Redemption is set in the winter, most likely due to the fact that Inauguration Day takes place on January 20.
