Season 7 - Trivia

Season 7 aired after being off the air for almost 18 months due to the Hollywood Writer's strike. Large amounts of the season had already been filmed ready for the intended airdate of January 2008, and indeed the delays led to the creation of 24: Redemption. Africa was the planned start-point for season 7, but instead it was decided to make a TV movie of Jack's African adventure, as a prequel to season 7.

In another unused version of the Season 7 premiere, a masked man breaks into Chloe O'Brian's house, and is later revealed to be Jack Bauer.

The premiere of Season 7 sees the “Events occur in real time” title card used for the first time since the the beginning of Season 3.

Despite the surprise of Tony Almeida's return, Carlos Bernard's name appears among the credits at the bottom of the screen before he is fully seen. Almeida does appear on the screen prior to the credit appearing, albeit with a mask over his face; with viewers who were unaware of his return in advance unlikely to have realised it was him. The decision to display his name was likely due to the fact that the show issued a press release in the summer of 2007 stating that the character would be returning, and therefore went under the assumption that everybody knew of his return.
This is the second series of Joel Surnow's creation to feature a character named 'Hillinger'. Here, Rhys Coiro plays Sean Hillinger, and in La Femme Nikita, a character called Greg Hillinger was portrayed by Kris Lemche, who also featured as Chris Whitley in the prequel to this season of 24, Redemption.

This is the first season to spotlight two main cast members with the “and” credit; Janeane Garofalo and Carlos Bernard. When both are featured in the same episode, however, Garofalo's name appears first, receiving a “with” credit instead. This also marks the first time a "with" credit is used for the regular cast.

This season is the first in which an actor, Carlos Bernard, receives an “and” credit in the main cast having appeared before on the show. Dennis Haysbert, William Devane, Jean Smart and Regina King have all been spotlighted in this manner since their first appearances and throughout their entire stint as regulars.

The room used for Jack's Senate hearing was also used as a courtroom in Changeling (2008), directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Angelina Jolie.

Many of the remarks that Senator Blaine Mayer makes during Jack's hearing are either direct references or allusions to remarks made by critics of the series and its politics.

Writer and producer Manny Coto personally brought former Star Trek: Enterprise show runner and writer Brannon Braga onto the show for this season.

The first 17 minutes of the first episode of Season 7 were included as a special feature on the 24: Redemption DVD, ahead of Season 7 airing.

The second episode of season 7 (9:00 am - 10:00 am) was the last episode of 24 to be written by Joel Surnow, who left the show in early 2008.

In the third episode (10:00 am - 11:00 am) Tony says “Charles Logan is a product of his environment” suggesting that the former President did not die from his stab wound in Day 6.

Only four episodes contain the main season 7 cast in full. These are 10:00 am - 11:00 am, 11:00am - 12:00 pm, 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm and 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm.
